Yonkers Addressing Parking Placard Misuse

An investigation was conducted by Brendan J. McGrath, Inspector General for The City of Yonkers.

His report (Parking Placard Use in the City of Yonkers – 2015) was completed through a comprehensive review of parking placards in and around Yonkers.

Parking tickets annually make up a significant amount of money for the city. For the 2014 calendar year, the City of Yonkers issued 174,822 parking tickets which collected $9,217,955.49.

The report  calls for a coordinated and regulated program to dispense and monitor the use of “official” placards in the city.

This review discovered widespread misuse of placards of many varieties and as a result, specific recommendations to the mayor and City Council have been made to address this issue.

“The Inspector General’s recent report on the parking placard use in Yonkers is disturbing," Mayor Mike Spano said. "I want to thank our IG for his extensive investigation and based on his findings, I will propose new, appropriate policies and procedures in which these placards are issued and used.”

Spano has been busy working on this issue and has not yet released a statement on how he will be addressing this issue, and how things will be moving forward.
